summer summer summer

I have one exam left and I will finally have finished. I am feeling so so so summery! The new Cults album, Cults, is AMAZING! I think that it will definitely be the soundtrack to my summer. If you are reading this comment below and tell me what you will be listening too.

My style icon for the moment is Gillian Zinser, aka Ivy from 90210. I am feeling very 'boho' at the minute. Pictures to come soon, I am charging my SLR. Until then here's a few of my inspiration :)

an ending fitting for the start....

I used to love The Libertines. If you asked me to name a band who first properly developed my interest in music, it would be them. I even dated a boy who looked like Carl Barrat and who played in a band that covered their tracks. Having been dubious of its release after the crazy stories concerning Pete and the band circling the web, I was ecstatic after the 'The Libertines' arrived in my letter box in 2004, the follow up to 'Up the Bracket'. Hearing of the break up was sad, but after witnessing the atrocity that was Pete Doherty and the Babyshambles performance at Reading in 2005 I realized it was probably for the best. Roger Sergant's book 'Bound Together' revived my interest in the band and I remember how my heart skipped excitedly watching the first footage of Carl and Pete playing together again at a gig in Camden in 2008. What is apparent now however is that they only reunited for the festival circuit last year for money. Fueling the bands drug problems is not something to get excited about. I am shocked to hear that Roger Sergant  has made a movie about the band's reformation. The book was well done, there was a story, the photos were great. Now all I see when I look at the pair is sadness. Carl Barrat is no longer hot, and by the end of the year Doherty may yet again be behind bars - this time for involvement in a murder charge. Somethings end for a reason. Like a sick animal that need's to be put down, maybe the world should let the Libertines rest. Before they do any more damage to themselves or anybody else. I am intrigued to see the documentary, but I do have very low expectations. It is difficult to see a band you once had so much respect for in such bad terms, but the constant criminal offences, terrible solo efforts and relationships with super models have left no other way for the band. Still in the good old days, they made a very pretty couple.

curl up and dye

Brightly colored hair just keeps popping up! Usually included on the cobrasnake website, then on the Jeremy Scott A/W 11 runway, then 'Bleach Salon London' was featured both in British Vogue April 2011 and on nylon.com for specializing in luxury pop colors. I am very tempted by the trend, as a teenager I always used to mess with coloring my hair - blue and pink having been my preferred experiments. Now at the age of 21 I feel that I may be too old. Alas, I can celebrate the trend in this blog post, with examples of my favorite styles. Enjoy.

lcd soundsystem - back from the dead?

Hello, long time no speak! With less than a month to complete my dissertation I have found myself rather busy. On a break from researching the career of Pope Innocent III yesterday I spent some time listening to my LCD Soundsystem CD's and reminiscing on the two occasions that I had the pleasure to see them live. Firstly in 2005 at Reading Festival, at a time when 'Daft Punk Is Playing At My House' was easily my summer anthem, and at last years Coachella Festival, when again James Murphy (in a dashing white tuxedo) was easily one of my festival highlights. Youtube footage of the bands final show left me a little sad, but knowing that I had seen the band at two of my favorite festivals and that i had shared the experience with thousands of others who felt the same way as me more than made up for this small moment of melancholy. Feeling happy with the CD's I own and the memories I carry of this once glorious electro force I happily moved on from my mourning.

Imagine my surprise this afternoon when up on my facebook feed pops a post from HRO exclaiming 'R U effing kidding me James Murphy'. Despite retiring just under two weeks ago the band have released a new track, an elongated cover of Franz Ferdinand's 'Live Alone' in true LCD style. Not being a fan of Franz Ferdinand I believe it is a great improvement on the original, but this could easily be down to my own personal bias. The track is set for release on an EP of Franz Ferdinand covers this weekend on Record Store Day. Below you will find the link, so feel free to decide for yourself. Unlike Carles of HRO I think it is safe to say that LCD Soundsystem are well and truly dead, although there may be a few surprises in store in the future, through the means of leaked unreleased tracks and such. Also it is unlikely that front man James Murphy will completely wash his hands of music, especially as he is rumored to be touring with DJ sets.

Below you will find videos of my favorite LCD tracks and a link to 'Live Alone'.

The world is a dark place - Karl Lagerfeld

The runway alone is breath taking. I feel that little commentary is needed. It looks like goth is indeed here to stay.

OSCARS

I LOVE JAMES FRANCO!!
Sorry, I just needed to get that out of the way before I went any further with this post. I am fed up of people bitching about him being 'stoned' while hosting The Academy Awards. Just because he played 'freak' Daniel in Freaks and Geeks (so so hot in this let me add) and Sal the lovable drug dealer in stoner comedy Pineapple Express does not make him a  man that is so consumed by marijuana addiction that he would turn up to the most prestigious event in his acting career so far high!. I have smoked a fair amount of weed in my lifetime and know that it would be tremendously difficult to accomplish anything he did that night while on  anything except maybe Ritalin. Not only was he hosting the awards, he was actually nominated for best actor, while he is still studying for his masters ant NYU. On top of this he tweeted tweets, pics and live coverage of the show through out the night.
Despite all of this love I have for him and firm believe that he was not high, he was not a good host! Anne Hathaway was dreadful as well - though  I really am not fond of her. The opening skits were good and if they could have continued that way through out the night they would have been fine. However nerves got the better of them and they stuttered and fluffed their way through. Highlight of the two of them has to have been Anne's Lanvin tuxedo which was incredible, and James breathing in Oprah's air which apparently Anne is so fond of. The two hosts were upstaged by the majority of award presenters, especially Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr who demonstrated what stage presence actually is. Maybe they should host next year, nothing could be as bad as this year.

Proof that James Franco is actually a devoted and hard working person is demonstrated below in the series of Esquire interviews conducted by James' brother Dave (who was almost cast as Edward Cullen).
